Customization

Learn how to customize your documentation site's appearance and branding to match your style.

Customization#

Your documentation should reflect your brand and style! Dokly makes it easy to customize your site's appearance without any coding required.

Basic Branding#

Make your documentation site truly yours by adding your logo:

Access Project Settings

Go to your project dashboard and click on "Settings" in the sidebar.

Upload Your Logo

Click "Upload Logo" and select your image file. We support PNG, JPG, and SVG formats.

Preview and Save

You'll see a preview of how your logo looks. Hit "Save" when you're happy with it!

For best results, use a logo that's around 200px wide. SVG files work great since they scale perfectly on all devices!

Custom Colors#

Choose colors that match your brand:

  • Primary color – Used for links, buttons, and accents
  • Background colors – Light and dark mode backgrounds
  • Text colors – Ensure good contrast for readability

Favicon#

Don't forget the little details! Upload a custom favicon to make your documentation site look professional in browser tabs.

Theme Customization#

Dark Mode Support#

Dokly automatically provides dark mode support for your documentation. Your readers can toggle between light and dark themes based on their preference.

The theme switcher appears automatically in your site's header. No configuration needed!

Typography#

While you can't change fonts directly (yet!), Dokly uses a carefully chosen font stack that looks great and reads well:

  • Headings – Clean, modern sans-serif
  • Body text – Optimized for readability
  • Code – Monospace font perfect for technical content

Advanced Customization (Pro Plans)#

Remove Dokly Branding#

This feature is available on Pro plans and above.

Pro users can completely remove Dokly branding for a white-label experience:

  • Remove "Powered by Dokly" footer
  • Hide Dokly attribution
  • Complete brand control

Custom Domains#

Take your branding to the next level with custom domains:

Purchase Your Domain

Buy a domain from your preferred registrar (like Namecheap, GoDaddy, or Cloudflare).

Add Domain in Dokly

Go to your project settings and click "Add Custom Domain". Enter your domain name.

Configure DNS

Follow the DNS configuration instructions we provide. You'll need to add a CNAME record.

Verify and Activate

Once DNS is configured, we'll verify your domain and activate it. This usually takes a few minutes.

Custom domains include automatic SSL certificates, so your site is always secure!

Keep It Simple

Don't go overboard with customization. Clean, simple designs are often the most effective.

Test on Mobile

Always check how your customizations look on mobile devices. Most readers use phones!

Brand Consistency

Use the same colors, fonts, and style as your main product for a cohesive experience.

Accessibility Matters

Ensure good contrast ratios and readable font sizes for all your users.
